This episode's focus is Mount Kenya. It is Africa's second-highest at 5,199 meters above sea level.
The mountain had been revered by our ancestors for centuries; as God's holy mountain. For example, during severe calamities or pertinent issues of community concern, the Njuri Ncheke (Council) of Elders from the Meru tribe always went up Kirimaara/Mt Kenya to commune with God. They would perform intricate rituals, and also offer sacrifices to atone for their communities.
I trekked the Naromoru route up to the Met Station at an elevation of 4500 meters. The station also hosts a climber's camp for Batian, the highest mountain peak. The trek was as scenic as it was enchanting, replete with verdant natural growth and healthy biodiversity.
Nature is the most reliable pharmacy for humanity. It is where herbs, seeds, trees, fruits, roots, tree backs, leaves, insects, animals, minerals, and a host of raw materials are harvested for the production of modern medicine. Nature compliments scientific advancement in numerous ways to list.
So it follows that a walk, visit, or stay in a natural environment provides healing, relaxation, meditation, reflection, inspiration, and wellness. I felt refreshed in body, mind, and soul.
