In the lion kingdom, the male lion role is very specific; to protect the pride. On the other hand, most of the hunting is by the lionesses.
When it comes to bringing up the little cubs, it is the task of lionesses in that pride. They nurture and protect the young ones on communal basis.
While some of the lionesses are out hunting, others are left on duty to guard the young ones from predators.
It is in these communal set ups that the young cubs learn vital survival skills. They receive the best motherly love and grooming in the wild until the weaning period is over.
The cubs are also taught crucial hunting skills that they will depend on once they eventually break free from parental oversight
Lions play an important role when they cull herbivorous herds to maintain a balanced ecosystem
