This video is filmed at Lower Imenti Forest in Meru County, Kenya. The young forest is a success story of ecosystem restoration. Approximately 20 square kilometers of this once pristine forest got completely destroyed 25 years ago through illegal logging, and poorly supervised forest farming activities. When community members saw the adverse effects this destruction had on on their livelihoods, they joined hands and planted indigenous trees that are a replica of what had been destroyed. The forest maturity is gradual but secure under intense vigilance by both the Kenya Forestry Service and Community members. All of us can make a similar resolve to restore the many ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed wherever we live on this planet. Together; we can do it.
